The papers include incoming correspondence (1815-1824) from her girlhood school friend, Antoinette Brevost, a teacher in Pittsburgh and later Natchez. Subjects include: health, students, reading, mutual friends, and travel. Outgoing correspondence (1798-1848) was written to her mother to Sophie Madeleine Dalmas du Pont (in French), her brother Alfred V. du Pont, and friends. The letters to Louisa du Pont (a sister-in-law) were written while Victorine was visiting friends in Philadelphia and include information regarding her activities and instructions to Louisa about servants and household matters. Other papers include bills and receipts (1821-1823), primarily for dry goods.

Louisa Gerhard was a daughter of William Gerhard (1774-1848) and Sarah Wood Gerhard (1781-1851) of Philadelphia. In 1837, she married Henry du Pont (1812-1889), a son of Eleuthère Irénée du Pont, the founder of the family gunpowder firm. Henry du Pont was a graduate of West Point and served in the military until 1843, when he resigned and joined the family business. He was senior partner from 1850 until his death. Victorine du Pont was the oldest daughter of E.I. du Pont, the founder of the family powder business. She married Ferdinand Bauduy in 1813, but he died six weeks later, and she never remarried.
